Why routine health screening matters more than you think

Most people come to a hospital because something has already gone wrong. By then, a condition that could have been managed with one tablet and a change of diet may need months of treatment. Routine screening turns that around. It looks for problems while they are still silent — and silence is exactly when high blood pressure, diabetes and several cancers do their quietest damage.

A standard screening at Spenharry Medical takes under two hours. We check your blood pressure, weight and blood sugar, run a full blood count and a basic metabolic panel, and add further tests based on your age and history. You leave with a written report, and if anything needs attention a doctor talks you through it the same day rather than leaving you to puzzle over numbers on a page.

We recommend a full check once a year for healthy adults, and every six months from the age of forty, or sooner if hypertension, diabetes or heart disease runs in your family. Employers sending staff for pre-employment testing can arrange group bookings through our front desk. Whatever brings you in, the point is the same: finding a problem early is almost always cheaper, simpler and far less frightening than finding it late.

Thank you for this. I booked a screening after reading it and my blood pressure was higher than I expected. Glad I came in when I did.

Does the screening cover children as well, or is it only for adults? I would like to bring my two boys.

Thanks for asking, Emeka. We run a separate paediatric check for children. Call the front desk and we will book you in.
